Perched directly above the waterfront along Seattle’s iconic shoreline, The Edgewater Hotel offers one of the most distinctive wedding experiences in the Pacific Northwest. Suspended over Elliott Bay on massive wooden pilings, the hotel feels deeply connected to both the energy of downtown Seattle and the quiet beauty of the waterfront surrounding it.
From the very beginning of the day, Derek and Louise fully embraced everything that makes the Edgewater so unforgettable. The atmosphere throughout the hotel felt effortlessly elegant — urban yet coastal, luxurious while still grounded in the natural textures of the Pacific Northwest. From the rooftop views overlooking the Seattle skyline to the iconic red “E” standing tall above the property, every part of the venue carried a timeless Seattle character that felt both refined and inviting.
Before the ceremony began, Derek and Louise shared their first look just outside the hotel along the waterfront pathway. Framed by towering wooden beams wrapped in greenery, the setting created a naturally cinematic atmosphere that felt intimate and elevated at the same time.
As Louise walked toward Derek through the outdoor wood beam corridor, the moment unfolded almost like a scene from a film. The soft natural light, the surrounding foliage, and the architectural lines of the pathway created the perfect setting for timeless bridal portraits before the couple finally saw one another for the first time that day.
When Derek turned around to see Louise, everything immediately felt emotional, effortless, and deeply genuine. There was no need to over-direct or manufacture moments; the connection between them naturally carried the entire experience.
Following their first look, family portraits and group photographs took place throughout the waterfront spaces surrounding the hotel before guests gathered for the ceremony overlooking Elliott Bay.
The ceremony itself was absolutely breathtaking. Positioned in front of floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping waterfront views, Derek and Louise exchanged vows surrounded by nearly 180-degree views of the bay and the Seattle waterfront beyond.
Without a formal wedding party standing beside them, the ceremony felt especially intimate and focused entirely on the two of them.
As Louise walked down the aisle alongside her father, all eyes naturally turned toward Derek’s emotional reaction as he waited for her at the altar. The atmosphere throughout the room felt incredibly still and intentional, allowing every moment to fully unfold without distraction.
Framed by the expansive windows and waterfront backdrop behind them, Derek and Louise stood together in one of the most visually stunning ceremony settings Seattle has to offer. The soft natural light reflecting across the bay only added to the romantic atmosphere throughout the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, guests gathered together during cocktail hour at the rooftop bar overlooking the Seattle skyline. With fresh waterfront air, panoramic city views, and the energy of downtown Seattle surrounding them, the atmosphere felt relaxed, celebratory, and unmistakably Pacific Northwest.
The ceremony space was then transformed seamlessly into the reception space, allowing everyone to continue soaking in the breathtaking waterfront views throughout the evening. As the sun slowly disappeared behind the horizon, the room filled with warm light and an intimacy that made the entire reception feel deeply romantic.
One of the most meaningful parts of the evening came through the speeches and toasts shared by family and friends. While Derek and Louise are both incredibly accomplished and successful — Derek attending Booth and Louise attending Wharton — what stood out most throughout every speech was not their achievements, but the depth of their character and the undeniable way they complement one another.
Again and again, loved ones spoke about the kindness, authenticity, and connection they share together. The evening became not simply a celebration of success or elegance, but a celebration of partnership, intentionality, and the life they are building together.
Derek and Louise’s wedding at the Edgewater Hotel beautifully captured everything that makes Seattle waterfront weddings feel so timeless; refined city energy, breathtaking natural scenery, intimate emotional moments, and meaningful celebration surrounded by the people who know and love you most.
