Chace and Kahealani’s Thornewood Castle wedding felt like stepping directly into a fantasy world. Located just south of Seattle in Lakewood, the historic castle venue created the perfect atmosphere for a wedding inspired by Harry Potter, medieval architecture, and fairytale storytelling.
The couple chose Thornewood Castle after searching for the most magical places in the Pacific Northwest, and the venue could not have matched their vision more perfectly. Between the stone architecture, dramatic grounds, castle interiors, and moody atmosphere, every part of the property felt cinematic from beginning to end.
The morning began upstairs inside one of the castle suites as Kahealani and the bridesmaids got ready together. Hanging beside the large castle window were bridesmaid dresses in distinct colors inspired by the different Harry Potter houses, adding such a creative and personal detail to the day. Rather than traditional bouquets, the bridal party carried Harry Potter books wrapped with beautiful foliage accents that tied perfectly into the fantasy-inspired aesthetic.
As hair and makeup finished, the bridesmaids celebrated together in matching robes with champagne and gifts from Kahealani before changing into their dresses for the ceremony. The atmosphere throughout the morning felt joyful, relaxed, and full of anticipation.
Kahealani’s wedding dress immediately became one of the standout visual moments of the entire day. The dramatic train, delicate lacework, elegant sleeves, and incredibly long veil felt absolutely perfect for the castle setting. As the bridesmaids and Kahealani’s mother helped secure the dress and veil, every detail of the gown felt worthy of admiration. The intricate lace textures and dramatic silhouette transformed the bridal suite into something that truly felt like a scene from a fantasy film.
As guests began preparing for the ceremony, rain suddenly arrived at what initially felt like the worst possible timing. Chairs were wiped down, clear umbrellas appeared throughout the venue, and rain jackets quickly became part of the wedding day attire.
But somehow, the rain completely transformed the atmosphere in the best possible way.
As guests took their seats outdoors, the officiant and Chace waited patiently at the ceremony space while the rain continued falling around them. The ceremony backdrop overlooked the castle itself, creating an incredibly dramatic and cinematic setting that somehow became even more magical beneath the moody Pacific Northwest rain.
What initially seemed like a setback quickly became one of the most memorable and visually stunning parts of the entire wedding day. The soft rain, dark skies, and castle backdrop created an atmosphere that felt straight out of a fantasy novel.
As Kahealani walked down the aisle, the rain continued falling gently around the ceremony space while guests watched from beneath clear umbrellas. The vows, ring exchange, and first kiss all unfolded against the dramatic castle scenery while the weather added emotion, moodiness, and romance to every moment.
The ceremony truly felt like a real-life fairytale.
Following the recessional, guests returned inside the castle while wedding party portraits and family photos continued outdoors between moments of rain. The weather paused just long enough to capture portraits across the castle grounds before the rain returned once again as everyone headed back inside.
Cocktail hour inside Thornewood Castle carried the same magical atmosphere established throughout the day. Every room inside the castle felt immersive and transportive, perfectly fitting the couple’s Harry Potter and Dungeons & Dragons inspired vision.
The indoor reception space was styled similarly to the Great Hall from Harry Potter with romantic candlelight, elegant table settings, foliage accents, and dramatic castle interiors surrounding every guest. The ambiance felt warm, intimate, and completely immersive without ever feeling overly themed or theatrical.
Dinner featured a variety of handheld meat pies catered by Premier Meat Pies alongside appetizers and desserts from Nothing Bundt Cakes. Every part of the reception felt intentionally designed around comfort, celebration, and creating an unforgettable guest experience.
As the evening continued, the toasts, cake cutting, and dances flowed naturally into a packed dance floor filled with nonstop celebration throughout the night. The energy never slowed down as guests fully embraced the magic and excitement of the evening together.
The night ended with a sparkler exit outside the castle, creating the perfect final moment for a wedding day that already felt completely cinematic from beginning to end.
Chace and Kahealani’s Thornewood Castle wedding beautifully demonstrated how meaningful storytelling, immersive details, and authentic emotion can create a celebration that feels unforgettable. Between the rain-soaked ceremony, castle backdrop, fantasy-inspired decor, and nonstop celebration, the entire day truly felt magical in every possible way.
